Walnut’s Anabelle Chang helped Walnut High School make history this season.

Her leadership led the Walnut girls golf team to its first ever CIF State championship after her older sister Alison Chang, who now golfs collegiately at Princeton and was our 2016 SCPL Awards Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was unable to clinch the State championship last year.

In postseason play, Chang won the two-day Hacienda League title by three strokes, getting six birdies and an eagle. She then won the CIF Southern Section Northern Division individual tournament with a 4-under-par 68 at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard. She won the tournament in a one-hole playoff.

Chang’s support tallied her nearly 8,000 votes throughout last week, which was good enough to earn her the SCPL FAN VOTE Girls Golfer of the Year honor, after she was named the San Gabriel Valley Tribune Player of the Year.
