Winning Numbers: With more than 50,000 votes between them, less than 300 separated Arroyo Valley girls basketball standout Omari Smith and Rancho Cucamonga girls soccer star Mikayla Soll in voting for this week’s SoCal Prep Legends girls athlete of the week. The close tally went to Smith, who finished with 26,275 votes to edge Soll’s 25,974 votes. Smith, who plays wing/post, was named most valuable player of Arroyo Valley’s own Dolores Dudek Tournament, as the Hawks won the title. In five games Smith averaged 16.8 points, 13.4 rebounds and 4.2 blocked shots. She recorded a double-double in every game as Arroyo Valley won the tournament for the first time in the eight-year history of the event. Soll led the Cougars to a 3-0-1 record and a championship at the season-opening Summit Tournament, registering two goals and two assists on the week. Soll had the game-wining goal in the 2-1 victory over Etiwanda while her other goal came in a 3-2 win over Yucaipa.
