SACRAMENTO >> It took about four minutes for Bishop Montgomery’s student section to reach peak cheering form.

At the 3:54 mark of the first quarter against Woodcreek on Saturday, Bishop Montgomery’s Ethan Thompson effortlessly slipped through the Woodcreek defense and slammed a two-handed dunk in transition.

“It’s too easy!” chanted the Bishop Montgomery student section, known as The Swaglet. “It’s too easy!”

But what started as a rout ended in a nail-biter. A 20-point Bishop Montgomery lead evaporated into a close 74-67 win as the Knights claimed their first CIF State Open Division title, in Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center.
