California’s Angel Aguirre voted 2016 SCPL FAN VOTE Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year

The boys cross country FAN POLL has accumulated the most total votes of any FAN POLL SoCal Prep Legends has run this athletic year.

Almost 60,000 votes were casted during the week, a majority of them coming for Jose Melchor (Baldwin Park) and Angel Aguirre (California), but it was Aguirre’s support that earned him the 2016 SoCal Prep Legends FAN VOTE Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year honor.

The senior led his California High School cross country team to consecutive CIF State meet appearances, including sixth-place finish in the State meet, which was one spot higher than last year’s 2015 finish.

Aguirre won all three Del Rio League meets. He finished 21st in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 final in 15:06.5. The Condors were well back at the halfway point of the 3-mile race at the Riverside City Cross Country Course, but they rallied back to earn a spot in state.

Aguirre’s efforts were also recognized by the Whittier Daily News this past December when he was named Whittier Daily News Runner of the Year.
