When Covina High’s offensive lineman Zion Maae had an Eagle Scout project that involved doing community work in Azusa, his teammates rushed to help.

“It was a Saturday morning and I needed help painting benches and tables for my project and my teammates and coaches helped me finish it,” Maae said. “We’re together like that.”

Maae, along with his cousin Ailoa Tauvao, a running back and linebacker, are both seniors with Samoan heritage that bring an energy and playfulness that rubs everyone the right way.
