CERRITOS – Taylor Stephens hit a home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday to give Gahr a 4-3 win over Mater Dei in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 softball quarterfinals at Gahr High.

Gahr (24-5) will play at Chino Hills (32-4) in a Division 1 semifinal Tuesday when the Gladiators will try to make their second appearance in a CIF-SS softball championship game.

Stephens, a freshman third baseman, lined an inside fastball over the left-field fence, a few feet above Mater Dei left fielder Amanda Valle’s leaping effort. It was Stephens’ third home run this season.
