RIVERSIDE — Hillcrest football coach John Brandom had a unusual proposal for William Fernandez a couple of weeks before the 2017 season started.

The roster took a big hit when a handful of players decided not to play this season, and one of the areas most affected was the offensive line. Fernandez weighs 180 pounds and had been a receiver in previous years, but Brandom believed Fernandez was a possible solution at right tackle.

“Pound for pound, Will is one of the strongest guys we have out there,” Brandom said. “I knew he could step right in and go get the job done..”
