Jeff Sink confirmed Tuesday that the 2017-18 season will be his final one coaching the Brea Olinda girls basketball team.

Sink, who will turn 66 on Saturday, has coached the Ladycats to 10 CIF-Southern Section championships and five state titles.

Sink was also the recipient for SoCal Prep Legends Coach of the Year in 2016 at the SCPL Awards last June.

 

The 2017-18 season will be his 22nd coaching Brea’s girls. The 22 years is spread over two stints; in between he coached the school’s boys basketball team for two years earlier this decade.

“I’ve thought about it for quite a while now,” Sink said. “Next year will be my 38th year of coaching basketball. Coached for 13 years in Alaska and 24 at Brea.

“I love coaching and I’ve got a really special group (returning next season). It’s the first time in a long time we’ll have seven seniors, and when they came in, I promised them I’d stay until they graduated. It’s a great group of kids, and the group after is very good too. I thought it would be a good swan song. And I always think it’s class act when a retiring coach leaves with cupboard fully stocked.”
