La Serna’s Maddie Franco voted 2016 SCPL FAN VOTE Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year

La Serna’s Maddie Franco has a bright future, and what looks to be plenty of support.

The young freshman’s vote total accounted for more than 50 percent of the poll and crowned her the 2016 SoCal Prep Legends FAN VOTE Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Franco had never competed in a cross country race until this past fall, which makes her accomplishments even more impressive.

She dropped more than two minutes off her previous best time and placed second in the freshman race of the Rosemead Invitational. She was then eighth in her race at the Woodbridge Invitational and 11th at the Mt. SAC Invitational.

Her efforts also earned her Whittier Daily News Runner of the Year honors, to which she had the area’s fastest two times on the Riverside City Cross Country Course, site of the CIF-SS preliminaries and finals, running the finals in 18 minutes, 33.6 seconds.
