As senior seasons go, it wasn’t the storybook ending Montebello High School quarterback Gabriel Tapia had envisioned for himself.
But there he was, laying on the field with his leg on fire and his mind racing with thoughts of disbelief. Tapia had been tackled awkwardly by a Pasadena Poly defender in the first quarter of his team’s first round CIF Southern Section playoff game.
“It was the worst pain of my life,” Tapia said. “It was instant pain. I knew when I was laying there that I did something bad to my knee. I knew something was torn. It was heartbreaking for me.”
