Winning Numbers: Loza doesn’t just get strikeout and hits, she also drives in the votes! With a total of 6,673 votes and 60% of this week’s voting poll, North Torrance’s all-star softball player Alyssa Loza is our SoCal Prep Legends Girls Athlete of the Week.
Loza edged Redondo’s Kat Ung in a pitchers’ duel between two of the South Bay’s top pitchers on Tuesday of last week, tossing a no-hitter with eight strikeouts while slugging a home run to provide the offense in North’s 1-0 win over Redondo. Loza came back on Friday and tossed a four-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts during a 4-0 Pioneer League win at North Torrance.
The poll accumulated over 11,000 votes this week, including a valiant second place finish by South Hills’ Natalie Lugo, who brought in 2,242 votes.
