SoCal Prep Legends Girls Athlete of the Week
Name: Samantha Nieves
Winning Numbers: With more than 24,000 votes registered, Nieves finished in front with a whopping 10,759 votes to be named the SoCal Prep Legends girls athlete of the week, finishing ahead of Redlands’ Maddie Jordan, who had an impressive 7,018 votes to finish second. Nieves scored two goals in last week’s rivalry game against local foe Chaffey. The first in that game was her 17th of the season and tied the game with one minute to go in regulation. It also tied the school single-season goal record set by Celly Ruiz during the 2012-13 season. Nieves then scored with a minte left in the second overtime to win the game and give her the single season record. She now has 50 career goals, seven short of Ruiz’s career record.
