Redondo Union High basketball star Ryse Williams dies of cancer a day before graduation

Redondo Union High boys basketball standout Ryse Williams, the 2017 Bay League Most Valuable Player who was headed to Loyola Marymount in the fall, died early Thursday morning at age 18.

Williams’ coach at Redondo last season, Victor Martin, said his star player had been hospitalized a little more than a week ago after falling ill. Martin said tests on Monday revealed Williams was suffering from a rare, aggressive form of cancer that got into his lungs and liver and had reached stage 4.
