SCPL Football Pickem – Week 10

Football-Pick'em Week 9 Results

Each week select prep staff of the Southern California News Group will attempt to predict the outcome of SoCal’s best high school football games, which span across the Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.

You may notice that one “expert” isn’t a staff reporter, but a recognizable face and voice in the SoCal sports community, FOX Sports’ Petros Papadakis. The former Trojan football player and current co-host of AM 570’s Petros & Money Show will be SCPL’s guest picker for the 2017 season. Be sure to tune into AM 570 from 2-6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays to hear Petros make his selections, and speak  about SCPL’s best football games.

Remember to follow @SoCalPrepLegend on Twitter, and hashtag either #SCPL or #PrepLegends to share YOUR picks with us!

Steve Fryer, OCSteve Fryer’s Picks:
OC Register, @Steve Fryer
Pick Record: 54-16

-St. John Bosco vs. JSerra: St. John Bosco
JSerra coming off of a tough loss to Santa Margarita, and Bosco appears to be improving.

-Mission Viejo vs. San Clemente: Mission Viejo
San Clemente is very good, especially on defense, but Mission has more athletes an plenty of motivation to get Bob Johnson a league title in Johnson’s final year.

-Sierra Canyon vs. Paraclete: Sierra Canyon
Looks like they have played competition superior to that of Parakeet.

-Calabasas vs. Moorpark: Calabasas
Comparative scores/common opponents.

-Cathedral vs. St. Francis: St. Francis
It’s All Saints Day as I make these selections.

-LB Poly vs. Serra (Gardena): Long Beach Poly
Jackrabbits are darned good.
-Heritage vs. Paloma Valley: Heritage
Go Heritage!

SCPL/LA Daily News, @Tarek_Fattal
Pick Record: 48-22

-St. John Bosco vs. JSerra: St. John Bosco
JSerra is capable, though. My heart says JSerra, but I need to try and catch up in the standings. Gimme’ Bosco.
-Mission Viejo vs. San Clemente: Mission Viejo
A lot of great games this week, but not a lot of parity in the picks.
-Sierra Canyon vs. Paraclete: Paraclete
Have to stick with my preseason prediction. I knew these teams would be battling it out for the Golden Coast League title (not shocking). I see two outcomes, Sierra Canyon rolls, or Paraclete squeaks by.
-Calabasas vs. Moorpark: Calabasas
I’ve noted the Coyotes’ starpower before, and I’ll mention it again. Just too many high-level guys flying around.
-Cathedral vs. St. Francis: St. Francis
Freshman head coach Kyle Strazzeri has been setting me up for this matchup since late July. I’m also picking the freshman team to win too. =)
-LB Poly vs. Serra (Gardena): Long Beach Poly
I think it will be close.
-Heritage vs. Paloma Valley:
Heritage

Pick Record: 51-19

-St. John Bosco vs. JSerra: St. John Bosco
The Bosco weekly drama resurfaces — When will Re Al Mitchell play again ? Braves are a better team with him on the field.
-Mission Viejo vs. San Clemente: Mission Viejo
Diablos win for retiring coach Bob Johnson in his final regular season game.
-Sierra Canyon vs. Paraclete: Paraclete
Sierra Canyon’s team plane will depart Van Nuys Airport at 3:00pm sharp. Will arrive in Lancaster at 3:09pm
-Calabasas vs. Moorpark: Calabasas
Can’t believe I’m putting my faith in Calabasas again… What will it take for head coach Casey Clausen to finally wear a head set during the game?
-Cathedral vs. St. Francis: St. Francis
ThePhantoms play better when they have home “graveyard” advantage.
-LB Poly vs. Serra (Gardena): Long Beach Poly
With Serra’s offense struggling to move the ball, I prefer the Jackrabbit style.
-Heritage vs. Paloma Valley: Heritage
With the playoffs just around the corner, I’m looking for Heritage to become the new scourge of the IE…

Fred Robledo, SGVTFred Robledo’s Picks:

Tribune/Star-News, @SGVNSports
Pick Record: 51-19

-St. John Bosco vs. JSerra: St. John Bosco
Still second best after Mater Dei.
-Mission Viejo vs. San Clemente: Mission Viejo
Could be a classic but in the end taking coach Bob Johnson’s group to pull it out.
-Sierra Canyon vs. Paraclete:
Paraclete
-Calabasas vs. Moorpark: Calabasas
Comes down the better team winning and Calabasas is better.
-Cathedral vs. St. Francis: St. Francis
Jimmy Bonds’ team is going to show why it deserves a top four seed in Division 3.
-LB Poly vs. Serra (Gardena): Long Beach Poly
Serra couldn’t beat Bishop Amat at home so it won’t be Poly.
-Heritage vs. Paloma Valley: Heritage
On paper this looks like a no brainer.

Bosco is the clear second-best team in Trinity League behind MD

Sierra Canyon
-Calabasas vs. Moorpark:
Calabasas

St. Francis

NO RESALES

Evan Barnes’ Pick:
LA Daily News, @Evan_b
Pick Record: 54-16

-St. John Bosco vs. JSerra: St. John Bosco
The No. 3 seed awaits Bosco after taking care of business in season finale.
-Mission Viejo vs. San Clemente: Mission Viejo
Love San Clemente and HC Jaime Ortiz but Bob Johnson’s group will make sure he goes out with a win in his regular season finale.
-Sierra Canyon vs. Paraclete: Sierra Canyon
Before the year I would’ve taken Paraclete. After seeing Sierra Canyon up close, I’ll take their defense giving Paraclete fits and a 2nd straight Gold Coast League crown.
But it will be MUCH closer with Paraclete’s high powered offense

-Calabasas vs. Moorpark: Calabasas
Moorpark can win this based on coaching and discipline. But Calabasaswill win based on personnel.
-Cathedral vs. St. Francis: St. Francis
I saw Cathedral end SF’s unbeaten start last year but Cathedral isn’t as strong. St. Francis won’t score 77 points like last week but they will be physical and motivated to avenge last year and finish 10-0
-LB Poly vs. Serra (Gardena): Long Beach Poly
No Jalen Hall for Jackrabbits makes this harder but Serra’s lack of consistency means I’m taking Poly in a playoff preview
-Heritage vs. Paloma Valley: Heritage
Heritage’s the Division 2 power team nobody is talking about. That will change this month in the playoffs. For now, they win Friday.
