SCPL Football Pick'em

SCPL Football Pick’em – Week 6

Football-Pick'em NEW

Only two experts finished 6-1 after Week 6, Eric-Paul Johnson and Petros Papadakis. But the week’s most impressive pick came from Petros, who picked Upland over Rancho Cucamonga, the only expert to do so.

While Petros boasts the best pick, Johnson is the first to break the 40+ win mark for the season.

Be sure to stay tuned for Week 7’s Pick’em – which includes Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco.

Football-Pick'em Week 6 Results

Each week select prep staff of the Southern California News Group will attempt to predict the outcome of SoCal’s best high school football games, which span across the Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.

You may notice that one “expert” isn’t a staff reporter, but a recognizable face and voice in the SoCal sports community, FOX Sports’ Petros Papadakis. The former Trojan football player and current co-host of AM 570’s Petros & Money Show will be SCPL’s guest picker for the 2017 season. Be sure to tune into AM 570 from 2-6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays to hear Petros make his selections, and speak  about SCPL’s best football games.

OC Register, @Steve Fryer
Pick Record: 32-10

-JSerra vs. Servite: JSerra
A very tough pick, this one.

-St. John Bosco vs. Orange Lutheran: Orange Lutheran
Going with a hunch that the newly-eligible transfers make an impact.
-Westlake vs. Calabasas: Calabasas
The win over Valencia of Magic Mountain last week is a momentum-builder.
-Upland vs. Rancho Cucamonga: Rancho Cucamonga
Heck of a league opener!
-Centennial vs. Roosevelt: Centennial of Corona
Kings of the IE
-El Segundo vs. Culver City: Culver City
Close game.
-Narbonne vs. Carson: Narbonne
That team has played a mighty schedule.

Petros Papadakis’ Picks:
Fox Sports, @theOldP
Pick Record: 32-10

-JSerra vs. Servite: Servite
Trinity League finally kicks off. Best Friars team since Troy Thomas years.
-St. John Bosco vs. Orange Lutheran: Bosco
Fear the Spear. O Lu is undefeated and Bosco might be looking ahead to Mater Dei but I’ve still got to roll with the Braves.
-Westlake vs. Calabasas:  Calabasas
Westlake won’t be able to trade TD’s with Calabasas. But Coyotes will find a way to keep this game closer than it should be.
-Upland vs. Rancho Cucamonga: Upland
This Baseline League opener  feels like a CIF Final. The Scots find a way on the road.
-Centennial vs. Roosevelt:  Centennial
Biggest question about the Football Factory: The Huskies haven’t played since September 15, will they be rested or rusted ?
-El Segundo vs. Culver City:  Culver City
I will follow Greek mythology here — the Centaur has the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse.
-Narbonne vs. Carson: Narbonne
Love this old school Marine League battle. The Gauchos are the best 2-3 team in California

Fred Robledo, SGVTFred Robledo’s Picks:

Tribune/Star-News, @SGVNSports
Pick Record: 32-10

-JSerra vs. Servite: Servite
Close, but has been slightly better.
-St. John Bosco vs. Orange Lutheran: Bosco
Could go down to the wire.
-Westlake vs. Calabasas:  Calabasas
Going with Casey Clausen at home.
-Upland vs. Rancho Cucamonga: Rancho Cucamonga
Baseline title decided in league opener.

-Centennial vs. Roosevelt:  Centennial
Easy pick, blowout.

-El Segundo vs. Culver City:  El Segundo
Wins a thriller.

-Narbonne vs. Carson: Narbonne
Because it’s better than it has showed.

-St. John Bosco vs. Orange Lutheran: Bosco
Don’t think O Lu’s firepower will look the same against a legit defense

-Westlake vs. Calabasas:

-Upland vs. Rancho Cucamonga:
Rancho Cucamonga
-Centennial vs. Roosevelt:
Centennial of Corona
-El Segundo vs. Culver City:

Eric-Paul Johnson’s Picks:
Press-Enterprise, @CallMeEPJ
Pick Record: 35-7

-JSerra vs. Servite: JSerra
Both teams have Inland Empire alums on the coaching staff. Close game, but going with Norco alum Pat Harlow to win his Trinity League debut.

-St. John Bosco vs. Orange Lutheran: Bosco
Orange Lutheran is off to a solid start, but St. John Bosco will be looking to fine tune things for next week’s showdown with Mater Dei.
-Westlake vs. Calabasas: Calabasas
The Coyotes simply have too many weapons on offense.

-Upland vs. Rancho Cucamonga: Rancho Cucamonga
Upland definitely has the talent to win, but hard to go against Rancho Cucamonga at home with its energetic student section.

-Centennial vs. Roosevelt:  Centennial
Roosevelt’s offense will put a few points on the board. Centennial’s will put up many, many more.

-El Segundo vs. Culver City:  Culver City
Ask me again and I might go the other way. I’ll take the Centaurs to pull out a close win.

-Narbonne vs. Carson: Narbonne
The Gauchos will set the tone on defense behind the formidable linebacker tandem of Raymond Scott and Darien Butler.

NO RESALES

Evan Barnes’ Pick:
LA Daily News, @Evan_b
Pick Record: 32-10

-JSerra vs. Servite: JSerra
I like the Lions to roar loud to open league play
-St. John Bosco vs. Orange Lutheran: Bosco
Bosco won’t get caught slipping looking ahead to Mater Dei next week.
-Westlake vs. Calabasas: Calabasas
Westlake had trouble with Oxnard’s speed and even if QB Jake Kaplinski is cleared to play, Calabasas’ weapons will be too much to handle.
-Upland vs. Rancho Cucamonga: Rancho Cucamonga
Close game but RC pulls away.
-Centennial vs. Roosevelt:  Centennial
Huskies won’t be tested for a while. Better ? is will they score 60?
-El Segundo vs. Culver City:  Culver City
I believe in Jonathan Martin and this high powered offense
-Narbonne vs. Carson: Narbonne
Carson gets reinforcements but it won’t be enough against the Mighty Gauchos
