SCPL Football Pick'em

SCPL Football Pickem – Week 7

Football-Pick'em NEW

Steve Fryer’s only blemish in Week 7 was not his own, it was shared among all – Sierra Canyon.

The Trailblazers shocked SoCal when they took down Calabasas 26-14 on Friday night, but because the pick was unanimous for Calabasas across the board, Fryer doesn’t lose any ground, and is closing the gap on leader Eric-Paul Johnson. Johnson had his worst week, going 4-3 after picking Servite and Montebello. Despite a rough week, the Press-Enterprise guru still leads in wins.

Check out the season records.

Football-Pick'em Week 7a Results

Each week select prep staff of the Southern California News Group will attempt to predict the outcome of SoCal’s best high school football games, which span across the Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.

You may notice that one “expert” isn’t a staff reporter, but a recognizable face and voice in the SoCal sports community, FOX Sports’ Petros Papadakis. The former Trojan football player and current co-host of AM 570’s Petros & Money Show will be SCPL’s guest picker for the 2017 season. Be sure to tune into AM 570 from 2-6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays to hear Petros make his selections, and speak  about SCPL’s best football games.

Steve Fryer, OCSteve Fryer’s Picks:
OC Register, @Steve Fryer
Pick Record: 37-12

-Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco: Mater Dei
Those Bosco DBs are quick, but MD’s receivers are great and MD runs the ball quite well

-Lawndale vs. Culver City: Lawndale
Offensive superiority

-Sierra Canyon vs. Calabasas: Calabasas
One of the better non-D1 teams in Southern California environs
-JSerra vs. Orange Lutheran: JSerra
Excellent running game to go with a passing game that is fine, too

-Rancho Verde vs. Valley View: Rancho Verde
It means “Green Ranch” in Spanish. Rancho has played the more-challenging schedule

-Schurr vs. Montebello: Schurr
And by more than those three points suggested by the computer
-Servite vs. Santa Margarita: Santa Margaritaville
I just went with how I personally rank the Trinity League teams when I made this decision.

Tarek Fattal, DNTarek Fattal’s Picks:
SCPL/LA Daily News, @Tarek_Fattal
Pick Record: 34-15

-Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco: Bosco
Likely to be the unpopular pick, but I like the Braves in a game that will receive national attention.
-Lawndale vs. Culver City: Lawndale
Two words. Jordan. Wilmore. He doesn’t know it, but I call him “J-Dub”
-Sierra Canyon vs. Calabasas: Calabasas
Sierra Canyon coach Jon Ellinghouse is one of my favorites, but Calabasas simply has too much star power, and fire power.
-JSerra vs. Orange Lutheran: JSerra
Al Fisher is a stud. He’ll keep the Lions unbeaten in another great Trinity League showdown.
-Rancho Verde vs. Valley View: Rancho Verde
This is the truest pick’em of the week. Both teams know how to score points – give me Rancho Verde at home in a shootout.
-Schurr vs. Montebello: Schurr
Big time rivalry in Montebello. Both teams are capable, but Schurr QB Miguel Aguero will be the difference maker – big game for him.
-Servite vs. Santa Margarita: Santa Margarita
Both teams coming off losses to very good opponents. I think Santa Margarita is less likely to drop two straight.

Petros Papadakis’ Picks:
Fox Sports, @theOldP
Pick Record: 38-11

-Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco: Mater Dei
Monarchs have out-recruited Bosco and  they were going to win this game  regardless of Re-Al Mitchell’s injury status.
-Lawndale vs. Culver City: Culver City
2017 is the Year of the Centaur in the Ocean League
-Sierra Canyon vs. Calabasas: Calabasas
Sierra Canyon does not need to fuel up the school plane for this road trip
-JSerra vs. Orange Lutheran: Orange Lutheran
O-Lu needs to prove it’s the third best team in top heavy Trinity League.
-Rancho Verde vs. Valley View: Rancho Verde
Scoreboard operator be warned !!!  Rancho scored 62 points last week  & Valley scored 75 points last week.
-Schurr vs. Montebello: Schurr
Backyard Brawl with schools only 1.4 miles apart.  I like the road team to squeak by.
-Servite vs. Santa Margarita: Santa Margarita
I love the Friars all-black uni’s –But I’m taking the Screaming Eagles to snap their two game losing streak.

Fred Robledo, SGVTFred Robledo’s Picks:

Tribune/Star-News, @SGVNSports
Pick Record: 37-12

-Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco: Mater Dei
They’ve been waiting for this to show why they’re the best team in the country.
-Lawndale vs. Culver City: Lawndale
Culver City won’t be able to match score for score.
-Sierra Canyon vs. Calabasas: Calabasas
Is having an incredible year, but it won’t be easy.
-JSerra vs. Orange Lutheran: Orange Lutheran
Going to feel good on Saturday knowing I’m the only one who got this right.
-Rancho Verde vs. Valley View: Rancho Verde
You could flip a coin and I did. It’s that close.
-Schurr vs. Montebello: Schurr
It’s about time it finally beats rival Montebello.
-Servite vs. Santa Margarita: Santa Margarita
Not comfortable with this pick, but probably has the edge.

Calabasas
-JSerra vs. Orange Lutheran: JSerra
in my opinion the best Trinity League team after Bosco/MD
-Rancho Verde vs. Valley View:
Rancho Verde
-Schurr vs. Montebello:
Schurr

Santa Margarita has a slight edge in this one

Eric-Paul Johnson’s Picks:
Press-Enterprise, @CallMeEPJ
Pick Record: 41-9

-Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco: Mater Dei
D.J. Uiagalelei is emerging for St. John Bosco, but I don’t think the Braves will control possession like last year’s Pac-5 final.
-Lawndale vs. Culver City: Lawndale
Battle of unbeatens, but I think the Cardinals have the better combination of offense and defense.
-Sierra Canyon vs. Calabasas: Calabasas
The Coyotes have scored at least 35 points in every game. Expect that streak to continue.
-JSerra vs. Orange Lutheran: JSerra
A toss-up game in the Trinity League, but the Lions have a little more firepower on offense.
-Rancho Verde vs. Valley View: Rancho Verde
Both teams can score points in bunches, but the Mustangs have playmakers on defense that should make the difference.
-Schurr vs. Montebello: Montebello
I’ll take the Oilers’ balanced running attack to make it five in a row in this rivalry series.
-Servite vs. Santa Margarita: Servite
T.J. McMahon is a dual threat at quarterback for the Friars, and I think he’ll make enough plays to help his team eek out a win.

NO RESALES

Evan Barnes’ Pick:
LA Daily News, @Evan_b
Pick Record: 38-11

-Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco: Mater Dei
Bosco’s secondary will do just fine against JT Daniels and Co. BUT despite Bosco’s running game being tough, I trust Mater Dei’s offense a bit more to score points against a great defense.
-Lawndale vs. Culver City: Culver City
Centaurs have already faced a great running team in Dorsey. They may not stop Jordan Wilmore getting his but they’ll get it done
-Sierra Canyon vs. Calabasas: Calabasas
Sierra Canyon’s stout defense hasn’t given up a TD since Sept. 1 That streak ends Friday and Calabasas survives its last nonleague test
-JSerra vs. Orange Lutheran: JSerra
I believe in the Lions. And I trust Steve Fryer’s confidence in them.
-Rancho Verde vs. Valley View: Rancho Verde
Like I trust my colleague EPJ on his music, I trust him in knowing Rancho Verde well to pick them.
-Schurr vs. Montebello: Schurr
Trick or treat before Halloween, Schurr’s fans get a treat and end their losing streak.
-Servite vs. Santa Margarita: Santa Margarita
Love the combo of Chad Magyar and Josiah Norwood in SM’s backfield. Eagles get back to flying high after a loss
