SCPL Football Pick'em

SCPL Football Pickem – Week 8

Football-Pick'em NEW

Mike Guardabascio was near perfect in Week 8. The writer from Long Beach missed on the Burbank-Crescenta Valley matchup, which was only picked correctly by Fred Robledo.

Guardabascio went 6-1, highlighted by his Bishop Amat over Serra (Gardena) pick. The rest of the field went 5-2, except Robledo who had a rough week going 4-3, separating himself from the middle of the back and joining the likes of Tarek Fattal at the bottom.

A lot of football left, including more pivotal league games and high-pressure playoff picks.

Here’s how the season standings shakeout leading into Week 9:
Football-Pick'em Week 8 Results

Each week select prep staff of the Southern California News Group will attempt to predict the outcome of SoCal’s best high school football games, which span across the Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.

You may notice that one “expert” isn’t a staff reporter, but a recognizable face and voice in the SoCal sports community, FOX Sports’ Petros Papadakis. The former Trojan football player and current co-host of AM 570’s Petros & Money Show will be SCPL’s guest picker for the 2017 season. Be sure to tune into AM 570 from 2-6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays to hear Petros make his selections, and speak  about SCPL’s best football games.

Steve Fryer, OCSteve Fryer’s Picks:
OC Register, @Steve Fryer
Pick Record: 43-13

-JSerra vs. Mater Dei: Mater Dei
JSerra has the best team in its youngish football history, but these Monarchs are special.
-Lawndale vs. El Segundo: Lawndale
Which sounds like a wonderful place to raise children.
-Bishop Amat vs. Serra (Gardena): Serra
The soph QB Brumfield getting more comfortable.
-Crescenta Valley vs. Burbank: Crescenta Valley
Greg Goorjian went there, so I’ve always liked that school.
-Newbury Park vs. Calabasas: Calabasas
They will takes better care of the football this week.
-Glendora vs. South Hills: South Hills
Could be a high-scoring game.
-Cajon vs. Yucaipa: Cajon

Pick Record: 39-17

-JSerra vs. Mater Dei: Mater Dei
Too. Much. Sauce. I know Mike G will like that analysis.
-Lawndale vs. El Segundo: Lawndale
My guy ‘J-Dub’ will likely score another three TDs. Props to the O-line, too.
-Bishop Amat vs. Serra (Gardena): Amat
My sleeper pick this week.CalPreps has this game close, only a 7-point difference. I think Amat has found a groove – will grind out a win on the road Friday night!
-Crescenta Valley vs. Burbank:
Crescenta Valley
-Newbury Park vs. Calabasas: Calabasas
I can’t imagine the Coyotes dropping two in a row. The tone of practice this week is probably the most intense it will be all season.
-Glendora vs. South Hills: South Hills
I like the home team in this true Pick’em. Both teams lost to Charter Oak, but SH had a bit more succes.
-Cajon vs. Yucaipa: Yucaipa
The team has scored more than 40 points in six of its seven games. And after its big win over REV, I’m a believer.

-Glendora vs. South Hills: South Hills
Evenly matched showdown for control in the Palomares League
-Cajon vs. Yucaipa: Cajon

NO RESALES

Evan Barnes’ Pick:
LA Daily News, @Evan_b
Pick Record: 43-13

-JSerra vs. Mater Dei: Mater Dei
Now that the Monarchs have passed their toughest nonleague test, time to reign over the Trinity League
-Lawndale vs. El Segundo: Lawndale
Jordan Wilmore will not be stopped and neither will the Cardinals
-Bishop Amat vs. Serra (Gardena): Serra
Bishop Amat has been tough in league but now Serra gives them a tease of what Chaminade will later.
-Crescenta Valley vs. Burbank: Crescenta Valley
Well coached, disciplined and looks like Falcons are on a special run like 2014 CIF title year.
-Newbury Park vs. Calabasas: Calabasas
Coyotes are banged up and Newbury Park might be at close strength after a bye. But Calabasas bounces back.
-Glendora vs. South Hills:
South Hills
-Cajon vs. Yucaipa: Cajon
Because I have a friend that’ll disown me if I pick against Cajon (and I think nearly beating Murrieta Valley says more than 7-0)
