Serra girls basketball defense anchors CIF State title victory

Basketball on basketball court, elevated view

SACRAMENTO – The journey for a CIF State title began on Sept. 1.

“If we were going to accomplish the goals we set for ourselves, I knew that conditioning for 94 feet was not going to be enough,” Serra girls basketball coach McKinsey Hadley said. “We used the football field.”

The rigorous and relentless conditioning program that Hadley put his team through starting on the first day of school, months before the Serra’s first game, turned out to be the reason why the Cavaliers forced 27 turnovers in Friday night’s CIF State Division I final and walked off the court state champs after topping Sacred Heart Cathedral 70-54 at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
