There are certainly big games in Week 4, but this Dorsey-St. Francis matchup has enticed the SoCal Prep Legends staff with its potential to be a GREAT game.
St. Francis most recently came off an emotional win via a goal line sack to squeak by La Serna 24-21, and Dorsey is coming off a 41-0 thumping on Birmingham, a L.A. City foe.
As both teams go head-to-head tonight, we’ll see if the athletes flying around the field will produce a SoCal Prep Legends Game of the Week worthy highlight reel.
WHO TO WATCH:
St. Francis quarterback Michael Bonds is a poised signal caller with an accurate arm. In three games he’s thrown eight TDs and just two interceptions, but the Dorsey defensive may be the quickest and most athletic unit he’s seen this season–we’ll see how he handles the pressure.
Bonds has gifted options on the flanks and in the backfield. His number one option out wide is Daniel Scott who’s hauled in 232 yards receiving and four touchdown receptions. In the backfield, St. Francis rolls with a running back tandem of Jace Harrick and junior Elijah Washington.
Defensively, Dorsey is going to have to worry about St. Francis linebacker Maxx Jakeway. Jakeway leads the team with 29 tackles in three games and three tackles for loss.
For Dorsey, the Dons have a junior quarterback who stands 6-foot-3 and weights 220 pounds..named Isaiah Smalls..(We’ll let that one sink in.)
After Dorsey’s loss to Serra (Gardena) 34-6 in Week 2, the Dons bounced back viciously against Birmingham by compensating with a 41-point display. Running back Antwone Williams is a shifty and quick back that can make a defender miss in a phone booth.
Look for Smalls to exploit undersized St. Francis defensive backs by looking for 6-foot-4 240-pound wideout Kayvon Thibodeaux, who’s only a sophomore.
