St. Anthony isn’t ready to give up on league baseball title after loss to St. Bernard

LONG BEACH — St. Anthony is going to have to win Wednesday afternoon’s regular-season finale to claim a share of a second straight Santa Fe League baseball title, but the Saints will take a little momentum to Playa del Rey after rallying in the bottom of the seventh inning of Monday’s defeat to St. Bernard.

Three straight four-pitch walks, a wild pitch and Dominick Tucker’s three-run homer to left made a real game of it after St. Bernard stormed to a five-run lead in the opener of a two-game series. but the Saints got not closer and fell 7-6 at Clark Avenue Field.

The Vikings (11-10, 9-0) clinched at least a tie for the Santa Fe crown behind Ryan Gervais, who gave up one earned run and struck out seven over six innings, and a 13-hit attack that had the visitors in charge almost from the start. St. Anthony (13-8-2, 8-1) has to win Wednesday or settle for second place.
