FULLERTON – Things are beginning to fall into place for St. John Bosco’s baseball team, which overpowered mighty IMG Academy 7-3 on Monday afternoon at Amerige Park to start the National Baseball Classic, its sixth victory in the last seven games.

Junior left-hander David Hays pitched a solid first three innings and delivered an RBI single to provide the Braves (6-3) an early lead against the Ascenders (15-2), from Bradenton, Fla. Sebastian Orduño and Kameron Guangorena came up with big hits in the decisive fifth inning, and Isaiah Horton nailed down the win in the seventh to make an encouraging return from injury.

Hays, set-up man Ty Collins and Horton limited an IMG lineup loaded with NCAA Division I-bound talent – a group that came into the game with a .353 batting average, a dozen home runs and 49 extra-base hits – to seven hits while working out of several tight situations.
