When the St. Paul High girls volleyball team played its first tournament during summer league, senior outside hitter Alex Diaz and senior middle blocker Hannah Tostado, the reigning Whittier Daily News player of the year, knew this season could be special, especially after last year’s heartbreak.

La Salle finished 24-10 overall, but a season-ending loss to La Salle dropped the Swordsmen to 2-6 in the Del Rey League and the fourth-place finish wasn’t good enough to get the Swordsmen to CIF Southern Section playoffs.

With the dynamic duo of Tostado and Diaz back, St. Paul figured it would be tough to beat, but the Swordsmen are also proving that they’re more than just a two-headed monster.
