TEMECULA >> The nature of soccer is such that a match, a player’s fate, and a team’s fortunes all can turn in an instant.

In one minute, freshman forward Morgan Witz was a frustrated scorer, marked more than a failed geometry test. In the next, Witz accomplished something never done before at Temecula Valley High School.

Witz’s penalty kick Thursday sent the host Golden Bears to their first CIF Southern California regional championship with a 4-2 shootout victory — after tying 1-1 through regulation and sudden death – over Cypress in the Division II semifinals.
