Wagoner became the first wrestler in L.A. City Section history to capture four consecutive City championships by capturing the heavyweight division at Saturday’s City finals, capping it with a pin of Monroe’s Daisy Rosales.
The senior scorer helped Keppel reach the CIF-SS Division 2AA quarterfinals with a pair of big games. In the opener against Eisenhower Song scored a game-high 30 points, including 14 in the second quarter that turned a close game into an eventual 70-45 blowout. In the second round against Kennedy, Song scored 14 in a low-scoring 44-26 victory.
Long Beach Poly
With the rest of the Moore League already eliminated from the playoffs, the Jackrabbits looked like they’d cruise for much of the game, leading 1-0 until the 78th minute, when Rosary tied it up. Less than 30 seconds later, Leachman skied and headed home a game-winner on an assist from Cali Tyler. The win put Poly into the second round, thanks to a timely, legendary moment from the Jackrabbits’ senior Utah signee.
Redlands East Valley
The REV girls basketball program made history last week advancing to its first quarterfinal appearance. Ruhl helped REV rout Vista Del Lago as she flirted with a triple-double scoring 18 points, dishing out nine assists and snagging six steals.
