Rivera was named MVP of the Las Vegas Invitational tournament, which Alemany won without dropping a set. In the Warriors’ 25-22, 26-24 win over Bishop Gorman in the final, Rivera had a stellar all-around performance with eight kills, five digs and four aces to help defeat the defending Nevada 4A state champion.
Crawford had 14 kills, three blocks, two aces and 20 digs in Lakewood’s victory over Harvard-Westlake last Wednesday to win the Tae Kim Molten Classic. Crawford is the younger sister of Philadelphia Phillies shortstop J.P. Crawford.
The 6-foot-2 middle blocker chalked up a career-high 27 kills in a 3-1 win over Patriot on Wednesday. She averaged 4.8 kills per set (72 in 15 sets) and also was an All-Tournament selection at the Norco Tournament on Saturday. She has committed to NCAA DIvision II Azusa Pacific.
Forrest had a strong week while helping the Lancers get off to a 2-0 start. For the week, Forrest tallied 21 kills, six solo blocks and two aces. It all amounted to La Salle posting 3-0 wins over Alta Loma and Cypress.
It was another busy week for Rancho Christian’s multi-sport athlete. Baker played a total of eight volleyball matches, registering 59 kills, 37 digs and 21 aces during the week and helping the Eagles win the Dive Into the Season tournament championship Saturday. On Friday, Baker kicked the 15th field goal of her career — a 32-yarder — and also was 6 for 6 on extra points in Rancho Christian’s 47-14 victory over Whittier Christian.
She had 61 kills over three matches. The 6-foot senior outside hitter is team captain for JSerra, which last month won the Division 2 title at the Queens of the Court tournament. She has committed to Bryant University in Rhode Island.
