Claire Forrest
La Salle
The Seton Hall signee had a match-high 15 kills to go with 11 digs and a block in a victory over visiting Del Norte of San Diego, 25-12, 25-21 and 21-18 in the second round of the CIF State Girls Volleyball playoffs on Saturday.

Fatima Cortes
Great Oak
Cortes defeated some big names Saturday in the CIF-Southern Section Finals meet at the Riverside City Cross Country course, winning the Division 1 girls race in 16 minutes, 27.1 seconds to earn her first section title. Cortes kicked in the last half of the event, passing both Chloe Arriaga of Walnut and Lauren Peurifoy of King for the championship.

San Juan Hills
She had 33 kills over two matches won by the Stallions in the CIF State tournament. The 6-foot-2 outside hitter, who signed with the University of San Diego, had 11 kills in a 3-0 win over Granada Hills Charter in the Division I first round. She had 22 kills, 12 digs and an ace in a 3-1 win over Garces Memorial of Bakersfield in the second round. San Juan Hills plays at Long Beach Poly in the regional semifinals Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Jacqueline Duarte
Chino Hills
The Huskies runner continued her strong season by finishing seventh out of 177 runners in the Division 1 race of the CIF Southern Section meet on Saturday in Riverside. Duarte registered a three-mile time of 17:10.6 which qualified her for Saturday’s state competition at Woodward Park in Fresno. She had the top time of any local runner in any division.

Grace Catena
Palos Verdes
Catena, a senior, posted a time of 18:10 to finish fourth in the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 race, Saturday in the Cross Country Finals. Catena’s time was the best among South Bay girl runners. She helped Palos Verdes finish second in Division 3, qualifying for next week’s CIF State championships.

Chastity Ah-Hong
Ah-Hong had 25 kills in the Jackrabbits’ two victories to open the CIF State Division I playoffs.

Mia Barnett
Village Christian
Barnett may be young but she already achieved school history by winning the CIF Southern Section Division 5 individual cross country title with a time of 17:43.1. Barnett is Village Christian’s first-ever individual cross country champion.
