Sophie Gitlin
Flintridge Prep

The junior led the way in helping the Flintridge Prep girls cross country team win a third straight CIF Southern Section Division 5 state championship, Gitlin was the Rebels’ best finisher, finishing 10th overall in 18:42.2 The Rebels girls had their top five finishers among the top 14 scoring teams to finish well ahead of second-place finisher Francis Parker of San Diego.

Jayla Ruffus-Milner
Harvard-Westlake

Ruffus-Milner powered Harvard-Westlake to the Palisades Tournament title, scoring 21 points in the final to beat Fairmont Prep 48-45. Ruffus-Milner earned Tournament MVP honors after leading Harvard-Westlake to wins over Taft, Serra, Valencia and Fairmont Prep.

Elizabeth Chittenden
Mira Costa

Chittenden overcame a large gap in the final leg of the race, surging past Northwood’s Erika Adler and Anaheim Canyon’s Sara Leonard to capture the CIF State Division II championship in dramatic fashion, taking first place in 17 minutes, 25 seconds, edging both Adler and Leonard by one second. Chittenden became the second individual state champion in Mira Costa’s history.

Nicole Rice
Great Oak

Rice’s strong final mile at Saturday’s CIF-State vaulted to her a third-place finish and helped the Wolfpack win their fifth consecutive state championship, and sixth in seven years. Rice placed third in Division I, seven spots ahead of last year, in a time of 17:32.5.

Shelbie Dobmeier
Lakewood

Lakewood fell short of a state championship, but still made it to the CIF State regional semifinals, where it fell to Edison. Senior Shelbie Dobmeier ended her outstanding career with another great effort. In the five-set loss, the Middle Tennessee State signee had 44 assists, 15 digs, and six kills.

Morgan Hall
Loma Linda Academy

While the Roadrunners’ season is over, the 5-toot-11 Hall had a good week in two matches, the CIF State Division IV regional semifinals and finals. In the three-set semifinal win vs. Long Beach St. Anthony, she had six kills, four assists and a block. Then in a three-set loss to Point Loma, she had nine kills and two blocks.

Claire Graves
Citrus Valley

The only girls runner to represent a Redlands school at the CIF State meet in Fresno on Saturday, Graves finished 17th in Division II in a time of 18 minutes and 4.5 seconds.
