Gandy scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Sunset League-leading Griffins to a crucial win over second-place Edison. She added 12 points in a win over Marina that gave Edison a share of the league title for the fourth straight season. She also scored 11 points in a victory against Orange Lutheran in the Tony Matson Classic. The Griffins enter this week 19-5 overall and 8-0 in league.
Machain had the match-deciding pin at 116 pounds and helped Birmingham overcome a 9-point deficit with two matches to go, which clinched the Patriots an L.A. City Section Dual Meet Championship title.
The Nevada-bound center averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals and shot 71 percent from the floor to help the Monarchs go 4-0 against No. 10 JSerra, Orange Lutheran, Esperanza and No. 4 Orangewood Academy.
Bricarello dominated the 143-pound division at the CIF Southern Section Eastern Division regional qualifier. After a first-round bye, Bricarello advance to the final round, scoring pinfall wins in 43, 60 and 42 seconds. She capped things with a 9-1 victory over Cathedral City’s Angela Inprom, becoming the program’s first regional champion in three years.
Brown averaged 28 points last week, as the Red Devils beat Bassett and La Puente to clinch at least a share of the Miramonte League championship. Brown had 27 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals against Bassett. She followed with 29 points, eight rebounds, five assists and six steals against La Puente.
Padilla scored a career-high 32 points in a 67-60 win over St. Anthony and moved up to 13th place on the all-time scoring list at Bishop Montgomery. She ended the week with 14 points in a 63-53 win over St. Paul. Padilla has 1,244 career points and should move into 11th place (11 points away) with two games this week.
Milligan won the 235-pound CIF Southern Section Central Division regional wrestling title, becoming the first girls wrestler at Covina to win an individual girls crown. Milligan defeated Baldwin Park’s Alyssa Sanchez in just over a minute in the title match at Upland High School. Milligan is 23-2 this season and advances to this weeks CIF-SS wrestling championships at Roosevelt High School in Eastvale.
